About the Program


The artist residency program takes place every summer in the beautiful Alpine city of Villach. This small but vibrant Austrian town borders Italy in one side and Slovenia on the other.Culturally and historically this region has fused beauty of the Adriatic plane with the majesty of the high Karawanken mountain range.

The local community of artists, filmmakers, intellectuals and the general public have collectively brought this program alive. The program relies completely on the compassion and the good intention of the local community.Every year prominent artists/filmakers are being invited from different parts of the world to take part in the active cultural scene of the city. The program considers the whole city as the artist's studio and the citizens as the artist'S co-creators and collaborators. Gulmohor through this program rejuvenates its beleif that this beautiful Alpine city can accomodate unknown/foreign entities/ideas in its traditional social fabric.

Program Details

The artist in residence come into contact with the local cultural, civil groups long before the residency starts. Therefore he actively participates in designing the content of his own residency. After the selection process ends,the possible collaborators provide him/her infos and insights through about the art infrastructures, festivals, exhibition spaces that he can access and use during his stay.

Once the artist arrives in Villach he can network with local galleries, museums and work on his own designed contents. The only obligation is to give atleast one public performances/shows/installations/talks/seminars during the residency.

The artist with be provided with an apartment, a considerable amount of money for buying food and availing local transports. Most of the time local guides from the community volunteer to guide the 'Artist in Residence' around and to solve his day to day issues. The artist would be invited by local families for lunch/dinner/dayout occasionally during the residency. The city council also generously contribute to this Artist Residency program.
